- From Icmeler, the route to Rhodes involves a short transfer to Marmaris harbour followed by a high-speed catamaran crossing of approximately 45 minutes. The sea crossing is smooth on most days and the approach to the old harbour at Rhodes is impressive — medieval walls rise directly from the waterfront and the skyline of the old town is visible from the boat.
- Once you dock, you have five to six hours of independent time on the island. The medieval old town is entirely walkable and includes the Grand Master's Palace, the Street of the Knights, the Temple of Aphrodite ruins, and a range of shops, restaurants, and cafes. The beaches nearest to the harbour are accessible by short taxi rides if you prefer swimming to sightseeing. Most visitors do some combination of both.
- The contrast between Turkey and Greece across such a short stretch of water is more pronounced than you might expect. The architecture, the language, the food, and the pace all shift noticeably. Rhodes uses euros, so have cash ready or use a card with reasonable foreign exchange rates.
