Highlights

  • The day starts with a 3-hour sail from Icmeler harbour toward Dalyan, with a swimming stop at Dolphin Bay en route. Dolphin Bay is a sheltered cove with calm water and a sandy floor — a good warm-up before the main destinations. The boat then docks at the Dalyan River entrance for the inland section of the tour.
  • Turtle Beach — officially known as Iztuzu — stretches for 7 km where the Dalyan River meets the Aegean. The Loggerhead Caretta-Caretta sea turtles nest here between May and October, and the beach is managed as a protected area. A section is restricted during nesting and hatching season, but the rest is open for swimming. Seeing turtles is not guaranteed, but the proximity to the nesting grounds means early morning visits in summer have a reasonable chance of an encounter in the shallows.
  • The Dalyan canal boat section passes the Lycian rock tombs cut directly into the cliff face above the river. These date to the 4th century BC and belonged to the ancient city of Caunos. The tombs are visible from the water and the guide provides context on the history of the site. The thermal mud baths follow — mineral-rich mud applied to the skin, a stint in the adjacent thermal pool, and a rinse in the river. Remove silver jewellery before entering: the sulphur compounds in the mud discolour silver rapidly.

Frequently asked questions

Should I remove jewellery at the mud baths?

Yes. Remove silver items before entering the mud — the sulphur compounds will darken them permanently. Gold is generally unaffected.

Is it guaranteed to see sea turtles?

No. Sightings depend on season, time of day, and luck. The best chances are in the morning during summer months.

What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, a hat, a camera, and water shoes (useful on the beach and at the mud baths).
