The thermal springs have been flowing here for thousands of years, leaving calcium carbonate deposits that built up into the formations you see today. You can walk through the terraces and paddle in the pools — swimwear is essential.
- The ancient city of Hierapolis sits directly above the terraces. During the Roman period it functioned as a significant religious, commercial, and intellectual centre, and the ruins reflect that. There is a theatre, a large necropolis, Roman bath ruins, and the remains of temples spread across the site.
